Networking e LinkedIn

No matter where you are in the world, it is important to know the right people, and to reach these people we need to have opportunities to learn about them. Therefore, it is important to follow some companies and organizations on LinkedIn, and try to participate in events that deal with topics related to business or some sector of the economy.

Organizations like the Chambre de Commerce du Montréal Métropolitain are quite active with many activities, and offer a program called Sectoral Walkway. Applicants must have Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, a work visa or refugee status, or belong to a visible minority (cultural or indigenous community), as well as people with disabilities, unemployed individuals, women, seniors, and members of the 2SLGBTQIA community (regardless of gender identity or expression). Applicants must reside on the island of Montreal and be prepared to accept short-term employment.

This program also includes job search workshops, activities with companies including workshops on Human Resources practices and sector conferences, as well as sectoral matchmaking and virtual recruitment events.

The Brazilian Consulate General in Montreal occasionally hosts events, such as the September 7th celebration cocktail party or the pavilion it usually occupies at the famous food industry fair SIAL, which takes place every two years in Montreal. Sometimes the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (the entity based in São Paulo) organizes meetings with Brazilian entrepreneurs living in Montreal, but its work focuses on bringing trade missions from Brazil to Quebec. There is a close relationship between this Chamber and the Consulate regarding these commercial activities, and depending on the area in which you work, there may be opportunities for new contacts by following the activities of the commercial sector of the Consulate and also of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce. There is another Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce, but it is based in Toronto; this Chamber is known by its acronym in English BCCC and does not hold activities in Quebec very often, but in Toronto it is another scenario, it is worth checking out.

There are sectoral chambers that also promote activities to foster business, as well as some entities linked to the arts that promote meetings with artists to publicize programs to support artistic production. It is also worth looking for Brazilians who may work in the area in question, as they can give you valuable tips.
